The nominations for the 2024 Daytime Emmys have been announced, and this year's nominations were full of jaw-dropping surprises worthy of the soap opera genre.

For the first time in its 37-year history, The Bold and the Beautiful earned the most acting nominations of any daytime drama. It landed three nominations in the Lead Actor category, two in the Lead Actress category, and one each in Supporting Actress and Guest Performance. In all, B&B picked up twelve total nominations.
The Young and the Restless also pulled in twelve nominations. That total was comprised of six acting nominations, three technical nods, and nominations in the "big three" categories: Drama Series, Directing Team, and Writing Team.
For the second time in three years, General Hospital did not earn a single nomination in the Lead Actor category, officially known as Outstanding Lead Performance in a Daytime Drama Series: Actor. The sole ABC soap was also shut out of the Supporting Actress field. The last time General Hospital did not receive nominations in two categories was 2013 when it was blanked in the Lead Actress and Younger Actor fields. Last year, General Hospital scored four of the five nominations in the Supporting Actor category.
Despite GH's lack of acting awards, the show did pick up nominations for Series, Writing, and Directing. In fact, all four of the best-known soaps -- B&B, GH, Y&R, and Peacock's Days of our Lives -- received nominations in the big three categories.
But they were not alone.
This year, there were a whopping six nominees in the Outstanding Daytime Drama Series category. You're forgiven if you're unable to think of what those two other nominated programs might be. For the second year in a row, The Bay earned a nomination for top soap. This year, however, a long-running soap from another country found its way into the most prestigious Daytime Emmys category -- nearly two years after it was canceled. That back-from-the-dead soap is Australia's Neighbours, which was revived last year on Amazon's Freevee service. Neighbours originally ran from 1985 through 2022 and once boasted Kylie Minogue as one of its cast members.
Neighbours also snagged its first-ever acting nomination as Guy Pearce picked up a Guest Performance nomination for his work as Mike Young.
The Bay also made some history of its own. The series picked up nominations in the three major categories and also picked up two acting nods. A Martinez and Mike Manning, both known for their work on broadcast soaps, were both nominated in the Supporting Actor category. It marked the first time that a soap from one of the non-major networks earned a nomination in one of the main acting categories. Last year, Steve Burton was nominated in the Guest Performance category for his work on the DAYS spinoff Beyond Salem.

After last year's strike-delayed ceremony, this year's Daytime Emmys telecast moves back to its more familiar late-spring timeslot. The ceremony will air June 7, 2024, at 8pm on CBS and on Paramount+ Premium. The show will be available for on-demanding streaming on Paramount+ the following day.
The Daytime Creative Arts and Lifestyle Emmy ceremony will stream live at 9 PM ET/6 PM PT.
